Educators
Phillip and Hannah Hoose would love to have you share how you use Hey, Little Ant in your classroom or organization. Leave them a comment below and they will post your ideas and resources to this page.
Because Hey, Little Ant ends with a question–”What do you think that kid should do?”– the story naturally leads to discussion. Children want to keep talking. Common topics include bullying (“Have you ever felt like the ant?”) and the connectedness of living things (“Do you think the ant’s as important as the child?”).
An Educator’s Guide by Phillip Hoose is available online as well as a downloadable 4 page PDF file ready to print and use in the classroom.
Salisbury University
The Department of Teacher Education at Salisbury University has been a wonderful friend to Hey, Little Ant. Professors, Dr. Patty Dean and Dr. Ernie Bond have introduced the book to many new generations of educators. In 2009, Phillip Hoose presented the original cover art donated by illustrator Debbie Tilley to Salisbury University in appreciation for their work educating educators. See a brief video of that presentation.
